BANKER IS ARRESTED FOR REMOVING MONEY FROM A CUSTOMER'S ACCOUNT

A 30-year-old banker is on trial in Tarkwa Circuit court for dishonestly taking money belonging to a bank client. Edmond Nashiru, the accused, pleaded not guilty and was sent into jail custody.

She has a savings account at the bank's Tarkwa branch, and Edmond works as a front desk officer.

Felicity filed a complaint with Tarkwa Police on November 6, 2023, claiming that she got a series of mobile notifications on her phone that day showing that her account had been debited in the sum of GH9,781.00 without her authorization.

According to Chief Inspector Lartey, Felicity approached Edmond in the banking hall for explanation, but he merely informed her that scammers had taken her money, and she departed.

The prosecutor stated that on November 16, 2023, as part of a police investigation into the complaint, they acquired a court order and provided management of the bank with comprehensive information on the transaction that resulted in the alleged amount taken from Felicity's account.

He stated that the bank's audit staff examined the crime and reported their findings to the police, revealing that Edmond was the perpetrator.

According to the investigation, the accused used his cell phone to transfer the money from Felicity's account to two separate MTN numbers.

According to Chief Inspector Lartey, Edmond was arrested for interrogation and accepted to the police that he aided Felicity in installing a banking application on her mobile phone, gathering her log-in data to the account in the process.

According to the prosecution, Edmond stated that in order to cover up the crime, he entrusted his brother, who is currently on the run, with obtaining two Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards in order to purposefully deposit the money.

The court heard that once Edmond and his brother finished the deal, they threw away the two SIM cards to avoid being captured.

The case has been deferred to Thursday, December 28, 2023, for continuation.
