The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has an increase of 40 percent in the prize money awarded to winners of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This decision was made after a meeting led by Caf President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

Under the new arrangements, the champions of the tournament in La Cote d’Ivoire will receive $7 million. The runners-up will be awarded $4 million, while each of the two semi-finalists will receive $2.5 million. As for the four quarter-finalists, they will each be granted $1.3 million.
Dr Motsepe expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by Caf in the past two years regarding the increase of prize money in the AFCON and their other major tournaments. He highlighted that the total prize money for the AFCON winner has been raised to $7 million, reflecting a 40 percent increase compared to the previous amount.

Dr Motsepe confidently stated that a portion of the prize money will go towards the development of football and will also benefit all stakeholders involved in the sport, including Member Associations who will receive assistance with their administrative duties. The aim is to use these funds to support and enhance the overall football ecosystem.
