ECG DISCONNECTS AIRTELTIGO ACCRA DIGITAL CENTRE

The Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. (ECG) has disconnected electricity to the Accra Digital Centre due to nonpayment of a GH600,000 bill.

This breakup is part of a month-long effort across all of ECG's operations regions to recover debts owing to the company and to look for illicit connections.

"As an electricity distribution company, disconnection is often our last resort when all efforts to recover payments fail and we are left with no options," said Fred Baimbill-Johnson, Public Relations Officer of ECG, Accra West area.

The team also visited AirtelTigo's headquarters, and after negotiations with management, AirtelTigo paid GH1 million to clear its debts to ECG.


The Accra West team applauded companies such as Fanmilk Ghana Ltd., Accra Breweries Ltd., and Blue Skies for paying their invoices on time.

Ing. Emmanuel Akinie, the Accra West Regional General Manager, cautioned clients to avoid engaging in unlawful activities that drain the firm of vital income for system improvements.

ECG began a month-long nationwide revenue mobilization operation on March 20 that will terminate on April 20, 2023.

The initiative will target all types of customers in arrears, including State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and will be. overseen by special teams that will capture and prosecute violators.

The ECG has reported that it has recovered GH2.5 billion of the GH5.7 billion in consumer debt.
