The 'Afrafranto Walk' is a campaign initiative by Mr. Kyerematen, who broke away from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to garner support for his political movement.

In an announcement
posted on his social media accounts, it was said, "Let's work together to
bring about the change and progress that our beloved country, Ghana, so
desperately deserves."
In a special delegates election held in August of this year to choose five candidates for the NPP flag bearership
contest, Mr. Kyerematen finished third.
Mr. Kyerematen, who had resigned as the
minister of trade and industry from the incumbent administration, announced his
departure from the NPP before the final election scheduled for November 4.
Mr. Kyerematen cited mistreatment against
him and his followers by the party leadership as the reason for his decision in
a statement announcing his resignation.
He further charged that the government and
the NPP's leadership were manipulating the flagbearer election to benefit Vice
President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
